Yoga Therapy
Did you know trauma, stress, and anxiety are stored in the body? When you are chronically stressed, anxious, or on high alert, all of that energy gets pent up and can show up as tension, pain, headaches, and even digestion problems in your body! Trauma and stress aren’t just events that happen in the past and then we move on. They leave an imprint on the mind, body, and spirit. This is exactly why we target both mind AND body healing at CTSA.
The research is clear – Yoga Therapy and other mindfulness practices have been proven to help people release that pent up energy, manage symptoms, and heal from trauma, anxiety, depression, and stress.
So, we took it to the next level. We built a yoga and meditation studio that specializes in Yoga Therapy, known as the Get Centered Wellness Studio. The staff at the Get Centered Wellness Studio work closely with CTSA. Our approach is trauma-informed, and our instructors work with clients to build resiliency and calm down our overstimulated minds and bodies.
What Is Yoga Therapy and How Is It Different from a Yoga Class?
Yoga therapy is different from a regular yoga class – it’s more than a healthy habit or a fitness fad like hot yoga or goat yoga. In yoga therapy, the specially-trained yoga instructor uses yogic tools to develop a personalized yoga practice that will address your physical, mental, and emotional needs. These tools can include:
- Yoga positions/postures
- Breathing techniques
- Meditation techniques
- Guided imagery
Yoga therapy can be a complementary treatment to your mental health therapy. And once you learn the techniques that work for you, you can continue to use them at home or while you’re traveling, to help ease your mind and body.
