EMDR Therapy
Are you bothered by distressing memories related to your trauma that seem to play endlessly in your mind? Do you avoid triggers related to your trauma? Have you experienced changes in your mood and thinking since experiencing trauma? If these questions are resonating with you, you may benefit from a modality known as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR Therapy). The good news? Many of our in-house trauma therapists are trained in this modality here at CTSA!
What Is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR Therapy is a structured trauma therapy that encourages the patient to briefly focus on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories.
EMDR Therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms. Ongoing research supports positive clinical outcomes showing EMDR Therapy as a helpful treatment for disorders such as anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, addictions, and other distressing life experiences.
